This is one possible way to share a dialogue with Andrea Howe's group on improving step-families. It is through the use of a blog.
You can type in comments by going to the end of these words and clicking on "comments." Then say what you have to say. A suggestion—make it a dialogue. Use this format to comment on what others have said before you, as well as to raise new topics of your own.
So go ahead—write something below here.
I'll start. I personally am interested in attacking the biggest leverage points in step family issues. To me, that feels like parents and step-parents, as opposed to kids, and parents and step-parents who are at least speaking to each other but not much more than that. If we can affect the transition from cold, hostile, passive-aggressive to something more open and honest—including positively confrontational—that, I feel, has more impact than anything else we could do.How to do that? I'd suggest starting here by sharing stories.

One thing I didn't think about until now......
should this be focused primarily on married extended families? The dating situation can be tough too and has a different dynamic because the commitment level is different, possible multiple Sig others over time, etc. May want to consider this in the initial steps, i.e. one other aspect as to who the target audience is. Given the added complexity of the dating, I think I'd recommend initially focusing on married, engaged or otherwise permanently committed familes. Just a thought.

Hello all
I am sorry I was unable to make the call last night and am excited about how things have kicked off! I have the privilege of seeing Andrea in person tomorrow so I will get the full scoop. I will just add to the "why interested" question by sharing that I have been a stepdaughter for more than 20 years with stepsisters and stepbrothers from two different families. I am personally eager to figure out how to create more connectivity across "expanded families" given that I have a new baby want to connect her to all dimensions of our family.
Thank you Andrea for creating this and thank you everyone else for participating so that I can too!
Alison
